Q?

Do you sell coffee roasters for home use?

A.

All of the coffee roasters you see on our site can be used for home use.

Q?

I just bought one of your roasting drums, and even after following instructions my beans are too dark / burned.

A.

If your beans are too dark or burned the internal temperature of your grill is too high or you may have roasted a bit too long. Try roasting with less heat / not as long. Also note that roasting less than capacity in the roasting drum will result in a quicker roast.

Q?

Do you have a thermometer that reads the temperature of the grill?

A.

We suggest that you purchase a regular grill thermometer from Amazon, they run about $10. Click Here For More Info

Q?

How do I place an order? I need help!

A.

You can purchase one of our coffee roasters or related equipment by using our online purchase system. Just go to the items page by clicking on its related category tab shown under our company image on the top of the page. From there you will be able to locate the item you wish to purchase. When on the item page you only need to click "Add To Cart" button and then you can go to checkout. At the checkout screen you will fill in your name and billing information, delivery information, and finally your payment information. We accept PayPal and all major credit cards. If you still have difficulty placing an order you may call us at 203-930-8972.

Q?

How much does a grill and rotisserie setup cost?

A.

Typical grills adequate for up to a 5 lb. capacity drum run around $150 delivered from walmart (model name is Backyard 4-Burner Grill). A Char Broil Premium Universal Fit Rotisserie runs around $50 if that from amazon.com. Both the grill and rotisserie, along with a propane tank which needs to be purchased also from Home Depot, Lowes, etc., are the essential components to have to roast. Also heat proof Ove Gloves which can be purchased from amazon.com for a nominal cost.

Q?

How do I determine which roaster size is best for my needs?

A.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself: How often do you wish to roast? Every week? Every other week? Every month? How much do you wish to roast at a time?

As an example, if you wish to roast a pound of coffee a week (pre roast weight) then
you should go with a 1 lb. drum at the least. If you wish to have 1 lb. every week but only want to roast every 2 weeks then a 2 lb. drum should be the least.

Note that roasting takes 20% to 25% off the weight of the beans while roasting. 1 pound of pre-roast weight will equal 12 ounces of final weight after roasting. Also are you considering a commercial venture? If so you may wish to consider a larger size drum
or system than originally intended to anticipate future growth.

Q?

When is the right time to upgrade my machine?

A.

If you are roasting more than once per week you may wish to consider a larger drum or roaster capacity. If you are doing commercial roasting and find that you cannot keep up with your demand and are spending too much time roasting then you may wish to consider a larger drum or roaster capacity.

Q?

My roaster is broken. Where can I get it repaired?

A.

The roaster is covered under the Exclusive Lifetime Warranty. To get it repaired just follow directions indicated at the link shown.

Q?

Where does the machine dump the beans after the roast completes?

A.

Our drums and machines do not dump the beans by themselves. The operator must
remove the roasting drum from the machine and manually dump the beans from there.

Q?

Can I roast anything in this machine other than coffee beans?

A.

No, you would void the warranty.

Q?

How long should I normally wait before I can roast another batch?

A.

All of our roasters can roast back to back; however some are designed for continuous back to back roasting such as our commercial outdoor 10 lb. and 20 lb. all in one systems and all of our electric roasters. If doing back to backs with the electrics it is important to first do a quick vacuum out of roasting machine to remove any chaff from prior roast and to inspect roaster drum for any leftover beans prior to starting a new batch.

Q?

Can you recommend a roaster for beginners?

A.

The All In One Beginners System (choose Beginners version) is an excellent system for beginners. The best on the market for value, longevity, durability, and roast capacity.  It is a heavy duty unit that will last for years, not cheap plasticky chinese junk sold by most coffee roaster dealers.

Q?

Do you have a smoke eliminator?

A.

No, none of our roasters have smoke eliminators.  Smoke eliminators are a gimmick and usually fail within a short period of time.  It is best to avoid any roaster that uses them.

Q?

The machine fills my house with smoke, is this normal?

A.

First the electric indoor roasters are the only roasters which can be used indoors. The
beans do smoke when they roast and the ventilation system is adequate in removing
roasting smoke by piping it to the outdoors. If doing a real dark roast the ventilation system can become overwhelmed due to the excessive amount of roasting smoke generated. Also when removing the drum after roasting some smoke may escape. It is therefore very important to be sure you have the roaster in a very well ventilated area to address any escaping smoke issues. Grill type roasters should always be used outdoors without exception. All of our roasters have operating manuals which address these issues.

Q?

Is it normal when the roaster makes grinding noises?

A.

We have not had any grinding sound complaints from customers. We sometimes get a note about a squealing sound from the grill type roasters where the rotisserie rod rests on the grill bracket. If you are having that issue I advise a couple drops of olive oil and that generally takes care of it. The electrics may squeal a bit after some use where the gear plate spindles rest on the inside grooves of the roaster; same solution, a couple drops of oil where spindle meets groove.

Q?

The electric roaster appears not to be getting hot enough. Suggestions?

A.

Generally a roaster will not get hot enough because you may be using extension cords with it. Extension cords lower the voltage to the roaster resulting in a lower temperature. Due to such if you are using an extension cord you should refrain from using it. If you are not using an extension cord then usually preheating the roaster prior to adding drum and beans will help cut down (sometimes substantially) the roasting time.

Q?

Do you offer technical support for troubleshooting specific product malfunctions or errors?

A.

Yes. Technical support is free to original purchasers. Please use our contact form for any such questions.

Q?

I lost my manual. How can I get another one sent to me?

A.

All product manuals are located on our website under "PRODUCT MANUALS".

Q?

Do you offer spare parts for the roasters?

A.

We offer them on an inquiry only basis. Please email the owner Len at len@coffeeroastersclub.com and he will inform you if it is something we have in stock and what the cost would be.

Q?

What can I do if I am getting uneven roasts?

A.

If you are roasting in a BBQ grill your burners may not be distributing heat evenly across the entire length of the drum. Possible solutions can be by leveling the drum, increasing the rotational speed or adjusting your burner up or down. A good way to see if burners are running correctly is to scan the outside of the roaster with an infrared thermometer along where each burner resides inside; even though the temp readout is not indicating the actual temp inside it will provide information as to whether a specific burner is running hotter or cooler than others and you can adjust from there.

If you are encountering uneven issues with any other roaster please contact Len the owner at len@coffeeroastersclub.com . He will address any issue you have.

Q?

Will I need special tools to mount the motor assembly and the drum?

A.

Yes you will need some tools, but not special tools. You will need an adjustable wrench to
attach the motor assembly if you buy one. It would be nice to have a screwdriver, both
straight and Phillips, a set of hex keys, the ones that fold up into their holder will do.

Q?

Can I roast indoors?

A.

It depends on the roaster that you use. An example of an indoor roaster is the javaPRO-CRC, which is ventilated for indoor roasting (it has an exhaust ventilation unit that you hook up to an exhaust tube and route that to the outdoors). Also if you roast indoors you must roast in an area that is well ventilated because some roasting smoke does escape the roaster when opening its door to remove the roasting drum. All grill type roasters MUST be used outdoors without exception.

Q?

Will I need a pair of thermal gloves?

A.

Yes, you should always wear protective heat proof gloves like ove gloves, and eye protection should be considered.

Q?

Do I need a timer?

A.

No, but a timer could be a useful tool however not to be relied on entirely. It is best to rely on the sound the beans make while roasting (called cracks), and the amount of smoke seen during roasting.

Q?

Do I need anything else besides a roaster to roast beans?

A.

You may also wish to consider getting a bean cooler/dechaffer. You can purchase a bean
cooler/dechaffer from our website at:  javaCOOL-CRC Bean Coolers / Dechaffers.

Some people also use 2 stainless bowls and a fan; they can dechaff and cool down the beans by pouring the beans from one bowl to another through the airflow of a small table fan, and repeat the process till satisified the beans are cooled down and dechaffed.

Q?

Do I need a cooling tray?

A.

Recommendations for bean cooling and dechaffing: You can purchase a bean
cooler/dechaffer from our website at:  javaCOOL-CRC Bean Coolers / Dechaffers.

Some people also use 2 stainless bowls and a fan; they can dechaff and cool down the beans by pouring the beans from one bowl to another through the airflow of a small table fan, and repeat the process till satisified the beans are cooled down and dechaffed.

Q?

How would I know whether your drum will fit the grill I already have?

A.

Consider the length of the drum plus at least 1 1/2" on each side of drum to make sure the
drum will fit in grill. Lastly consider the diameter of the drum to be sure it fits in grill without hitting bottom heat deflectors over burners or inside top lid of grill when it is closed. Drum specifications regarding drum length and diameter are referenced in the listing.

Q?

Which grill should I buy?

A.

Any type of grill that has burners located on the bottom and the ability to fit a rotisserie rod in it. So stay away from the newer infrared burner grills. Also consider the length of the drum plus at least 1 1/2" on each side of drum to make sure the drum will fit in grill. Lastly consider the diameter of the drum to be sure it fits in grill without hitting bottom heat deflectors over burners or inside top lid of grill when it is closed.

Q?

Is there a minimum roasting load?

A.

Minimum roasting load is considered to be 25% of rated capacity.

Q?

What is the desired rate of rotation for roasting?

A.

Optimal rotation for drum bean roasting is 60 RPM, however many roast with as low as 8
RPM and get fine roasts. All of our QuikSPIN-CRC's rotate at 60 rpm. The very popular Char Broil Premium Universal Fit Rotisserie rotates at about 9 rpm.

Q?

I just placed an order but now want to change it. How can I do that?

A.

Contact the owner ASAP at len@coffeeroastersclub.com or telephone 203-930-8972. If unavailable at time of your phone call he will call you back promptly.

Q?

Do you products come with a warranty?

A.

Yes, all products come with our Exclusive Lifetime Warranty.

Q?

Do you offer assembly or installation?

A.

While we do not provide installation, we do provide a manual with step by step instructions on assembling (if necessary) and installation. Note that most items are pre-assembled; some like the javaCOOL-CRC, the electrics, and the All In Ones may need some components easily attached together and the manual would show how to do that.

Q?

What factors matter most when choosing between coffee roaster drums?

A.

Roasting capacity and if the drum will fit your grill or the one you intend to buy.

Q?

What factors matter most when choosing between grill based coffee roaster systems in combo deals (All In One Systems)?

A.

One factor is roasting capacity and the other is if you intend to do commercial roasting; if
commercial roasting you would want to choose either the 10 lb. all in one or the 20 lb. all in one because they have a commercial grade motor system that is good for back to back roasts. The 5 lb. version has a consumer grade system which is not recommended for back to back roasts.

Q?

What factors matter most when choosing between electric indoor coffee roasters?

A.

Roasting capacity and if you want electronic temperature control (PID enabled roasters), or standard NON-PID function. Also PID enabled roasters have 60RPM Motor system, non-PID have 9 RPM motor system.

Q?

Why is your product better than your competitors?

A.

All of our items are made by hand by the founder of the company. Each order
receives his personal attention and quality inspection. No other competitors can claim
such.

We also offer a higher variety of coffee roaster equipment than the competition. Furthermore our exclusive lifetime warranty is superior to any others in the industry; we offer a lifetime warranty on all of our products, not just on drums as some do.

Regarding our high speed motor systems, ours are superior to our nearest competition in that our high speed motor systems require minimum setup and are safe enclosed systems; the competition has a cheap haphazard look and also has open air electrical wiring connections which we feel is hazardous.

Q?

Do you require a minimum order?

A.

No we do not.

Q?

How can I track my orders?

A.

At time of shipment you are provided with a tracking number that is emailed to you and

Q?

Do I have to sign for the shipment?

A.
